Man of the Hour

 This evening was Matthew’s Christmas band concert. In his introduction, his band director actually said it was “the Matt Estes show.” And he was only exaggerating a tiny bit. 😉 Matthew had both trumpet and flugel horn solos, covered the vocals for the Michael Buble version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” conducted the jazz band for that same number, and acted as narrator for some of the other bands. Seriously, he was the man of the hour!

And it was fantastic. Matthew’s skill level reflects the many hours that he has put into his practice. And he puts his emotions into the music, so that takes it up even another notch. The band director actually chatted with us for a few minutes after the concert and told us that when you have a student who can play like Matthew does and consistently hits all those incredibly difficult high trumpet notes like he can, you choose the hard music while you have someone who can play it! And play it he did. Matthew did an amazing job. I am so incredibly proud of him! It was a super fun concert.
