Way back in January, both Kevin and Nathan gave me balloons on my birthday. They lasted about as long as most balloons last, about a day for the latex balloons and a couple of weeks for the mylar ones. As each balloon gasped its last, it was discarded. After about three weeks, just one balloon remained. As we had done with the others, we planned to let it hang around until it reached its natural end of life, which ended up being much longer than expected. As the weeks and then the months passed, we kept that last balloon around just to see how long it would hang on. In the past two days, it finally began to lose altitude. It rose high and proud for five full months before it could no longer stay aloft. So now, we bid a fond farewell to the balloon that has lasted longer than any other.
So long, mylar buddy. You have honorably adorned our home for nearly half a year. May all other balloons aspire to rise to such long lasting heights as you have done.
