One of the many casualties of Covid are nearly all the experience gifts we gave our kids last Christmas. Tours, concerts, exhibits, rec centers…they were all canceled and closed. It has resulted in a lot of disappointments this year. But now that things have normalized a bit, Kevin’s mom was able to follow through on the experience gift she gave Malia. Amongst Kev’s extended family, there are quite a few that own and ride horses. His mom made arrangements with her brother-in-law to teach Malia a bit about horseback riding and take her for a ride. While it had originally been planned for spring, rescheduling it for the fall made Malia one happy cowgirl.
Kevin accompanied Malia as they traveled to the location where the actual riding would take place, and then Malia and Kev’s Uncle Don took off and had a grand old time perusing the hills on horseback. After their ride, they went back to Uncle Don’s house and Malia got to see his leatherwork. He makes his own saddles, and they are just beautiful.
It was such a fun day for Malia. I’m so grateful for all our family and their willingness to share such a memorable day with her. It will be one of those days that stands out in a good way, unlike the many less positive memorable days we’ve had this year.
